The PUDDLEDUCK submersible became the running joke of the navy. Designed with a wooden rudder that was prone to rot and falling off and required constant maintenance was one thing but the flailing midship paddles that were used for surfacing made such a splashing sound that it was impossible to sneak into enemy harbours.
