The HMCS BELLWEATHER was used during foggy crossings. Leading a convoy of vessels, it’s massive bell was rung so they could follow the sound , unfortunately the sound also alerted the enemy of their location and she was torpedoed twice but not sunk ! Eventually moored, the vessel was used for many years to mark the time 5 o clock P.M. by the ringing of the bell.
